01 / WHAT REALLY HAPPENED
1992
FROM A SMALL TOWN TO THE CIRCUS.
Tired of spending his Sundays driving around Porto Sant’Elpidio’s industrial estate in an old Ferrari-red Coloni, Sassetti decides to take the big leap. Into madness.
THE GARAGE. THE BLACK. EVERYTHING ELSE.THE TEAM ON THE ROAD / 1992
THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP / 1992
THE YEAR OF THE GIANTS. AND ANDREA MODA.
On one side, the champions. On the other, a little team from Le Marche. The same championship. Two worlds miles apart.
The season runs from Kyalami to Adelaide. Nigel Mansell wins his first title with Williams-Renault: 108 points to teammate Riccardo Patrese’s 56. Williams also wins the constructors’ championship, ahead of McLaren and Benetton.
31 MAY / MONTE CARLO
SENNA AHEAD OF MANSELL.
Ayrton Senna wins in Monaco, ahead of Mansell and Patrese’s Williams cars. For Andrea Moda, it is the day of their only race start of the season: Roberto Moreno qualifies, then retires.
30 AUGUST / SPA
STRANGE COINCIDENCES.
On 30 August at Spa, Michael Schumacher takes his first Formula 1 victory in a Benetton-Ford. That same weekend, Andrea Sassetti is arrested in the paddock.
One celebrates his first victory. The other is taken away by the police. Welcome to the 1992 championship.
Andrea Moda will be excluded from the championship by the FIA, ending its adventure without a point.
Some make history by winning. Others find their own way.

FROM SOMEONE WHO WAS THERE
“Do you know why so many fans remember us, even though we are considered the worst team in F1? Because we failed. But we did it in spectacular fashion.”

FROM THE MAN WHO MADE THE MIRACLE HAPPEN
ROBERTO “PUPO” MORENO / ANDREA MODA FORMULA
“Racing in Formula One is difficult. Racing and winning in Formula One is incredibly difficult. Racing in Formula One in an Andrea Moda is a miracle, and I’m the only one who did it.”
Three filmmakers from Le Marche. Four years of research. An idea that got seriously out of hand.
In 2019, Massimiliano Sbrolla, Cristiano Coini and Giordano Viozzi stumble upon this story. It all starts in a bar in Servigliano, listening to two people recalling a fellow local’s adventures in Formula 1.
They decide to tell it. A project that started for fun becomes a hunt for people, photographs and footage that seemed to have disappeared. The team was looking for a place on the grid. Thirty years later, we were looking for a screen.
01
“THIS WOULD MAKE A MOVIE.”
A group chat, the first notes, a meeting with Andrea Sassetti. Then the first interview with Alex Caffi, and the world comes to a halt because of Covid. The research keeps going.
It all starts over drinks.
02
TWO VHS TAPES IN A CELLAR.
Lanfranco Silenzi gives the filmmakers two tapes, unsure of what is on them. They contain footage from Misano and behind the scenes in the Monte Carlo garages. The archive starts coming back to life.
Never throw anything away. Ever.
03
“THIS IS ROBERTO PUPO MORENO.”
Phone calls, research, word of mouth. In April 2022, Moreno comes to Italy for the interview. A trip to Monza also leads to a chance meeting with the engineer Borko.
Sometimes chance lends a hand.
A WHATSAPP GROUP. A PROJECT THAT GROWS.Ideas, contacts, discoveries: the three filmmakers’ group chat follows the journey. From drinks in a small town to Formula 1’s offices in London.
The excitement of Niccolò Dal Corso, a longtime friend and producer, when he discovered that a Lauda Air flight would take him to meet Domenicali. It was fate. The whole crew
04 / ALL THE WAY TO LONDON
F1 HAD TO SAY YES TOO.
The obstacles to accessing the official archives seem to bring everything to a halt. Then Franco Panariti, the longstanding editor of Rombo and a friend of that 1990s Formula 1 world, comes to our rescue. He manages to arrange a meeting in London with... Stefano Domenicali.
It was as if we had gone to Cupertino to talk to Tim Cook about buying an Apple computer.
The filmmakers arrive at Liberty Media’s London offices. Domenicali listens to the story, gives the green light and even agrees to an interview. The documentary can finally happen.
To tell Andrea Moda’s story, we became a little like Andrea Moda ourselves.
04 / THEN WE SHOWED IT TO THE AUDIENCE.
LAUGHTER. GOOSEBUMPS. AND A FEW TEARS.
Some felt they were back home. Some watched it all in one sitting. Some laughed, some were moved, and some want to watch it all over again.
